About Us

WHO WE ARE

Compassionate support for healing, clarity, and purpose.

Unveiling Purpose is a compassionate, community-centered organization dedicated to supporting individuals through seasons of pain, uncertainty, and transition. We exist to create space for healing conversations, meaningful support, and guided growth.

Our work is grounded in listening first. We meet people where they are. Through personal support, community connection, and practical guidance, we help individuals find clarity, stability, and direction.

We believe healing comes before purpose. When people are supported with dignity and care, purpose begins to reveal itself naturally—leading to lives shaped by meaning, resilience, and hope.

OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU

Committed to care, dignity, and trust.

At Unveiling Purpose, our commitment is to show up with care and integrity.

We listen first and honor each person’s story with respect and confidentiality. We move at a pace that prioritizes healing and never pressure anyone to share more than they are ready to give.

We are committed to creating safe, supportive spaces where individuals feel seen, supported, and guided with intention. Above all, we remain present and trustworthy as people navigate their journey toward healing and purpose.

MEET OUR FOUNDER

A heart for healing. A vision for purpose.

Valerie D. Smalls is the founder of UNVEILING PURPOSE, an organization dedicated to helping hurting individuals to heal, find, and walk in their purpose. The organization grew from her passion to serve and positively impact lives.

Volunteer service for Valerie began in the late 1990’s in New York City, as a member of the Mount Olivet food ministry in Queens where she served for 12 years. It continued as she spearheaded the Rikers Island Prison ministry, also in Queens, NY.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, Ms. Smalls is a graduate of The College of New Rochelle, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology. After relocating to South Carolina in 2002, Ms. Smalls continued her mission and volunteered work with both food bank and prison ministry in Allendale, SC. Her employment included work in special education at Wade Hampton High School and the alternative school with children at risk. She also served as choir manager, escorting the choir on volunteer projects throughout the state. She continued her employment at Access Network, doing intake and counseling of clients with HIV/AIDS. Ms. Smalls became a business owner in 2015 when she co-founded Priority Home Care LLC. The agency provides in-home care to elderly and disabled clients in 5 counties of the South Carolina Low Country, allowing them to remain in their homes. Valerie serves as Director of Operations.

Ms. Smalls became an ordained Minister in the early 2000’s. She is a sought-after speaker and motivator. In 2015 Minister Smalls founded Woman of Purpose Ministries which evolved into UNVEILING PURPOSE in 2024. Minister Smalls is a member of New Covenant Church in Columbia, SC where she and her husband Jerry Smalls are leaders of the One Flesh Marriage Ministry whose mission is “To see marriages glorify God, more together than apart.” Her favorite scripture is Jeremiah 29:11, “for I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you an expected end” KJV.

Minister Smalls currently resides in Walterboro, South Carolina with her husband Jerry Smalls, her faithful partner in uplifting the kingdom of God. They have 3 children, Unique, Travain, Dallas, and a granddaughter Jada.
